For the second time in less than a year, Morgan McGarvey voted against a straightforward resolution denouncing an ideology that has consistently resulted in oppression, economic devastation, and the erosion of individual liberties. By voting against HR 1490, McGarvey totally ignores the historic failures of socialist regimes, including the Soviet Union, Venezuela, and Cuba, which have only served to produce systemic poverty.

McGarvey’s vote on this common-sense measure does not reflect the core values of the people he was elected to represent in the 3rd Congressional District. Kentuckians value hard work, accountability, and the freedom to pursue opportunity and their chosen religion without authoritarian overreach. This is one more example of a congressman out of step with his constituents in Louisville, particularly with the tens of thousands of Cubans who escaped from the communist Castro regime.

We challenge Congressman McGarvey to a forum on socialism with his opponent, Maria Rodriguez, who fled Cuba as a young adult due to the religious persecution of her family. Although likely to continue voting with his far-left colleagues, he may learn something from the experience.
