The Jefferson County Republican Party’s Executive Committee voted unanimously to nominate Calvin Leach as its candidate for the Kentucky State Senate District 37 special election. The election will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 16 for residents in District 37.

Leach is a lifelong resident of the South End of Louisville having grown up in the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood. Leach is a graduate of PRP High School and holds a Bachelors Degree in Spanish from the University of Louisville and a Masters Degree in Political Science, also from the University of Louisville. Leach recently retired from service in the U.S. Army in February, 2025.

Prior to joining the U.S. Army, Leach held positions as a TIG welder and a spot welder at Electrolux, package handler at UPS, tug driver/part-time supervisor at JustFab (now Tech Style) and worked for five years at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport.

Leach has also held positions as a legislative assistant with Louisville Metro Council and spent time interning, while in graduate school, with Kentucky Refugee Ministries where he assisted Louisville’s immigrant population with finding stable employment opportunities.

“Calvin is an outstanding choice to represent the Louisville GOP in this election,” said Don Fitzpatrick, Chair of the Jefferson County Republican Party. “Having recently retired from the U.S. Army, Calvin is patriotic, community-oriented and disciplined. Calvin is well aware of the challenges and opportunities in Senate District 37 and we look forward to actively supporting his candidacy.”
